Berkowitz on Goldstone

Peter Berkowitz, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, is one of the three smartest people I know. He is also one of the most incisive conservative commentators writing today so even when I do not agree with him, he is always worth reading.

Berkowitz has penned an important essay about the implications of the Goldstone Report for International Law, an issue of enormous importance as the world community and individual nations struggle with new forms of warfare, often perpetrated not by states but by terrorist organizations which do not recognize the norms of International Law. I cannot say that I agree with all of Berkowitz's concerns or conclusions; I am certainly less inimical to the United Nations per se, although that body's track record on Israel is so abominal they deserve the scorn that Berkowitz heaps upon them. But, as I say, Berkowitz is always worth reading and those concerned with peace ine the Mideast should consult this essay.
