While George Weigel, Archbishop William Lori, Robbie George and that crowd have been busy trying to baptize the American founding, more serious intellectuals have been pointing to the deeper difficulties with the "Fortnight for Freedom" mentality. Here is Patrick Deneen, who is not a liberal, in his latest critique of the "Natural Law Liberalism" theories that animate some of the neo-cons in their search for the secret formula that allows them to turn an event led and governed by anti-Catholic, mostly Deist, largely Masonic, into a proto-Catholic liberation. In addition to the soundness of his argument, Dineen gets high points for the pointedness of his prose. Bravo. (h/t to Kim Daniels for reminding me to post this link.)
