George Will Slanders Elizabeth Warren

George Will thinks that Elizabeth Warren, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Massachusetts, misunderstands the social contract. He quotes her fine words about the social responsibilities of the wealthy, and he even allows that yes, human flourishing happens within a social context. But, then he adds: "This does not, however, entail a collectivist political agenda."

Collectivist? Good Lord. Ms. Warren did not march on the farms of Western massachusetts and kill some kulaks. She advocated returning to the tax rates that obtained during the Clinton years and government regulation of Wall Street, Wall Street having demonstrated that it is incapable of regulating itself.

I would also note that all of Will's barbs could be applied equally to Catholic social teaching, but Will knows better than to mix it up intellectually with Benedict XVI.
