The December unemployment report came out this morning, and the initial estimate is that the economy added 155,000 new jobs, which is good but not great. The Department of Labor also revised upwards its initial estimate for November from 146,000 new jobs to 161,000. The hope is that the number of monthly new jobs will edge closer to 200,000 in the months ahead and other economic reports coming in for the end of the year, including homes prices, auto sales and other retail sales, are promising. So, things could be looking up, if not looking rosy, that is, unless Congress decides to take the country into default in two months!
