More joint editorials? So asks Peter Wolfgang at Crisis magazine and suggests that NCR, the Register, American and Our Sunday Visitor follow up on our joint editorial last week against t he death penalty with another opposing physician assisted suicide. I have written about that issue multiple times. I do not how it would bring "balance" to the practice of issuing joint editorials as I suspect most NCR readers also oppose it. Also, why not a joint editorial against poverty?

Wolfgang also links to a post by Mark Shea at the Register which responded to some of the conservatives who criticized the Register's decision to sign on to the joint editorial Shea's piece is simply splendid. The money quote:

This brings me to perhaps the weirdest and most distorted argument for the death penalty (voiced repeatedly throughout the blogosphere): "If ancient Rome hadn't had a death penalty, we wouldn't have a Savior" (I am not making that quote up.)  Yes.  Because nothing says "justice" like the crucifixion of Jesus.

My colleague Brian Roewe reports on Cardinal Turkson's comments on the environment here and Michael Peppard does the same at Commonweal.
