At CNN, Fr. Antonio Spadaro, SJ, editor of Civilta Cattolica, responds to the four cardinals with their five dubia. He hits the nail on the head: Dialogue presumes good faith and the "clarity" the seek is evident in the text of Amoris Laetitia, they just don't like what it says.

How badly do we need Pope Francis? A priest in Indiana barred a young man from singing at his grandmother's funeral because he is gay. Buzzfeed has the story.

At Commonweal, John Gehring on the next Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos's faith in free markets. DeVos is expected to push voucher programs for private and religious schools. If RC schools were teaching what the Church teaches about economics, DeVos and her free market friends would come to regret the vouchers.  Wouldn't that be, hmmmm, rich.

Finally, the Democrats do something right. Yesterday, they elected Cong. Linda Sanchez to a leadership position in their caucus, vice chair of the caucus. The LA Times notes that she is the first Latina to hold a leadership position in the House, which is true, and the headline is understandable given the Democrats penchant for identity politics. The fact that Sanchez is Latina is important, to be sure, as it has shaped her worldview. But, she is also a workhorse, not a show horse, a labor lawyer with a visceral commitment to workers' rights, a working mom, and one of the funniest members of Congress. She has won the award for best stand up routine a couple of times at the Democratic National Committee's annual contest. Congratulations Cong. Sanchez!
