In my post yesterday about the divisions between red and blue states, I neglected to mention, and link, to this article the other day in the Washington Post about how some blue states are enacting more expansive family leave policies. It gets to the heart of the matter. Some companies will not want the intrusiveness of state laws that regulate the job market, but I suspect that companies that want talented young workers, especially talented young women, will view such laws more favorably, understanding that they are more likely to attract such workers if those same workers know that, by law, they have the ability to start a family as well as pursue their careers under conditions of less pressure and more consideration for the demands of starting a family.
