In his current column at The Tidings, Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles looks to the Holy Father's pastoral visit - and pastoral words - at Lampedusa and asks if we in the U.S. are not becoming indifferent to the sufferings of our own immigrants here in the U.S. Earlier this morning, I suggested the USCCB get as many bishops as possible to make a visit to the border, spend a couple of days visiting with families there, going to detention centers, etc., to dramatize the plight our immigrants face and the urgency of enacting immigration reform. I suspect Archbishop Gomez would be the first to sign up.
