The USCCB's Catholic Campaign for Human Development has announced almost $1 million in new grants to organizations that will help mobilize Catholics in support of comprehensive immigration reform and, also, help Catholic institutions prepare to implement whatever reform is passed. I am sure the CCHD will get criticized for these grants - hell, they get criticized anyway, always it seems by people who forget that the Church's most essential mission is to evangelize and that at the heart of evangelization is preaching good news to the poor. Kudos to the USCCB for putting its money where its mouth is. I am still hoping for a "Fortnight for Immigration Reform" but this is a good first step.
