Francis' New Year's Eve call goes unanswered

Just before midnight on New Year's Eve Pope Francis called a small community of Carmelite nuns in Spain to wish them greetings.

But they didn’t pick up the phone, leading the pontiff to wonder out loud what the women were up to.

According to an ABC news report, he left them a voicemail in Spanish, which said:

What are the nuns doing that they can't answer [the phone]? I am Pope Francis, I wish to greet you in this end of the year, I will see if I can call you later. May God bless you!

Listen to the pontiff here, but after an obligatory advertisement.

While the incident was reported, we still don’t know what those cloistered nuns were up to New Year’s Eve.
