Central Italy hit by 6.2 magnitude earthquake

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck central Italy, about 100 miles northeast of Rome in the early hours of Aug. 24. Responding to the devastation, Pope Francis led those gathered in St. Peter's Square in praying the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary rather than delivering his normal address. NCR's Vatican correspondent Joshua J. McElwee and others shared local news on Twitter, which NCR has gathered in this Storify.
