Death of Thomas Berry

Passionist priest and acclaimed cultural historian Thomas Berry died in Well-Spring Retirement Community, Greensboro NC, at 6:25 am, Monday, June 1, 2009.

Funeral services will be held in four places:
1) Greensboro NC's St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, primarily but not exclusively for Thomas's family and the local community, Wednesday, June 3, 2009.

2) The Passionist Monastery, Jamaica, NY on Saturday June 6, 2009 at 11am.

3) Here at our monastery (Green Mt Monastery)which Thomas chose as his final resting place. Open to all. We anticipate a Mass of Resurrection and Burial to take place here on Monday June 8 at 11am. If this day/time changes, we will notify you by Tuesday afternoon
June 2.

4) A more general and public memorial service at St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City, where Thomas was honorary canon, details to be arranged by the Thomas Berry Foundation and directed by

Driving Directions to Green Mountain Monastery

From places South:
Take Interstate 91 North to I 89 North via exit 10North toward Barre-Montpelier. Take exit 8 toward US 2 Montpelier following US 2 into VT 14 to the town of Hardwick.

**From town of Hardwick, Vt
In Hardwick go through the blinking light (You will pass the Buffalo Mountain Food co-op on the right) You will see a laundry at the corner, bear to the left at this curve and go one block. There will be a Police station on the right and library on the left. At this corner go right and follow this road straight into Greensboro (about 7 -8 miles). Coming into Greensboro you will see Willeys Store on the Right. At Willeys go right and stay straight on this road for about 3 miles. (the road turns into a dirt road) You will come to a street sign for Jaffin Flt, go left onto Jaffin. Take this road a short distance and you will see a huge red barn and white farmhouse on the right. Pass this and take the first right turn which is Hillcrest Road. Go down Hillcrest, we are the first drive on the right. 420 Hillcrest Road. 802 533 7056.

From Burlington, Vermont
From Burlington take I 89 south and get off at Exit 10- Waterbury/Stowe Exit. When you come off the ramp go left. Continue on this road(100n) through the towns of Stowe, Morrisville onto 15 to Hardwick. When you come to the Light in Hardwick go left, you will pass the Buffalo Mt Food Co-op on the right………

From Places North

Take I 91 south to Exit 25- Barton/Hardwick Exit. Go right onto VT 16 (Glover Road) and continue on this to the Bend Road. Go right on the Bend Road until it ends. There will be a Post Office on the right. Take this right and stay straight on this road for about 3 miles. (the road turns into a dirt road) You will come to a street sign for Jaffin Flt, go left onto Jaffin. Take this road a short distance and you will see a huge red barn and white farmhouse on the right. Pass this and take the first right turn which is Hillcrest Road. From Weston, Vermont
Go to Rutland and take Rte 4 to Rte 100 to 107 to Bethel where you can get on Rte 89North. Take Rte 89N to the Montpelier Exit (8). Coming off the exit stay straight on Rte 2 which turns into Rte 14north into Hardwick.

From Manchester, New Hampshire
Take I 93 past Littleton,NH to I 91 in Vermont (abt 120 miles)
Merge right onto I 91n towards St Johnsbury. Take Exit 21, merge right onto US2w toward VT 15. Pass through Danville. In West Danville, turn right onto Grand Army of the Republic Highway (VT 15) Take this into Hardwick. Look for the laundrymat on the right. Turn right and go one block. There will be a Police station on the right and library on the left. At this corner go right and follow this road straight into Greensboro (about 7 -8 miles).
