Hooded priest calls for crackdown in Florida shooting

Fr. Michael Pfleger donned a hood during Mass on Sunday at St. Chicago's Sabina Church in honor of Trayvon Martin, 17, who was fatally shot in Florida by a man on neighborhood watch.

At the service, several dozen children wearing hooded sweatshirts formed a circle around the altar, one holding a sign reading, "We are all Trayvon Martin." An African-carved statue in the sanctuary was also wearing a hood and holding a bag of Skittles and a can of tea, as young Martin was when he was killed.

Afterward, teens joined by young adults stood at an intersection near the church calling for an end to shooting.

Pfleger said it is time for concerned adults to demand that authorities take action against increasing violence.

He and his parish have long campaigned against guns and violence on the city's South Side.
