New managing editor at work at NCR

Soon after Caitlin Hendel was named NCR's CEO/president, I started looking for a new managing editor. Thankfully, I didn't have to look very long or very far. I would like to introduce to our readers our new managing editor, Stephanie Yeagle.

Stephanie Yeagle, NCR managing editorYeagle told me that she knew she wanted to be a journalist since a young age, but really started to pursue the idea in college. She graduated with a communications degree and a religion minor from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill., and started her career in the newspaper business while working at the sports desk her senior year at the Jacksonville Journal-Courier.

She moved to Pittsfield, Ill., after graduating in 2005, where she covered two rural counties for the Pike Press and The Scott County Times, reporting the news and developing her photography skills. She then landed in the Kansas City, Mo., area in 2007, as the sports editor at The Cass County Democrat Missourian. Yeagle was concurrently named the sports editor at the Lee's Summit Journal in 2011, where she kept track of 12 local high schools, earning numerous press awards for her writing, photography and design skills.

After covering sports for almost seven years, Yeagle decided it was time to go back to her roots.

"I've always loved sports, but my interest in studying religion and reading about it never waned," she said.

Yeagle said she is excited to start her journey at NCR and looks forward to helping the publication move forward.

"What I love about NCR is that it is full of people dedicated to its mission of telling the truth," she said. "We are journalists to the core, but we also want to be a voice of those that otherwise might not be heard. We hope to make a difference, which takes me back to the reason I wanted to be a journalist in the first place."

Welcome to the team, Stephanie. I'm glad you're with us. She can be reached at syeagle@ncronline.org.
