This, from an opinion piece in The Korean Times today, writing about Pope Francis:
"More than ever, when he personally visited the father of a Sewol victim who was on hunger strike, the Pope wholly embraced the Sewol narrative and gave it a moral imperative that can't be ignored. In a world where even such a shocking tragedy is mired in political negotiations and drowned out by various vitriolic static, the simple act of an elder spiritual figure like the Pope reaching out and connecting with the families of the victims in a human way cut through the noise with a healing clarity that was a balm to the emotional scar left by Sewol. In short, he showed us what was truly important."
