Archbishop Emeritus Quinn to receive John XXIII Award

Archbishop Emeritus John Quinn of San Francisco will receive the AUSCP’s John XXIII Award at this year’s annual assembly, to be held at the Airport Marriott in St. Louis, Missouri, June 23-26. The AUSCP invites your coverage of this event, on Wednesday, June 25, during a banquet starting at 6:15 p.m.

From 1997 to 1980, Archbishop Quinn served as president of the U.S. bishops’ conference. He is the author of “The Reform of the Papacy,” a response to Pope John Paul II who had invited comment on the topic he raised in Ut Unum Sint. In 2013, Archbishop Quinn developed his thoughts on the matter in a second book, “Ever Ancient, Ever New: Structures of Communion in the Church,” published by Paulist Press.

Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio has read the first book, prior to his election as Pope Francis, and has since received a copy of the second book.

The theme of the St. Louis assembly is “Revelation in our Lives and Time,” drawn from the Vatican II document Dei Verbum. A list of keynote speakers may be found at the website, www.uscatholicpriests.org.
