Webathon Day 2: We're on the way

As we begin the second day of the webathon, we are on the way of exceeding the $80,000 that we raised last year. Thanks to everyone's support so early in this seven-day effort. If you haven't yet contributed to NCR's Third annual webathon, today is the day to do it. Yesterday I mentioned that your contributions are vital to enabling NCR to continue the boots-on-the-ground kind of reporting that you'll only find here at NCR. As if to prove my point, later that day John L. Allen Jr. filed a report from Rome under the headline Has the 'real Ratzinger' come out to play?

John is already at it again today. He just filed On bloody day for Christians, martyr's heir urges 'witness for the weak'.

It costs a lot of money to keep reporters in the field and on the story. It is only through your generosity that we are able to do that year in and year out. And John Allen, of course, is only one of the reporters we keep out there in the field. We also host a range of voices in our columnists online and in the paper. We have John Allen, but we also have Eugene Kennedy and Joan Chittister, Phyllis Zagano and Melissa Musick Nussbaum, Tony Magliano and Jamie Manson.

Is there another place in the Catholic media field that gives you such variety and depth? I don't think so. That is why I urge to join us today in our webathon. Please donate now.

NCR is the place Catholics come from all over the world to be informed about our church. In the last 12 months, we've had 6 million visits to our website from people just like you, people looking for news, analysis and commentary on the Catholic church, people looking to stay informed.

This, now, is your chance to do your fair share to keep this site alive and growing. Think of how valuable the services we provide are to you. Even those of you who do not always agree with us. You, too, come here for vital information.

Twenty percent of our annual budget comes from readers like you who donate to NCR. Help us right now.
