Webathon Update: Tuesday afternoon

The good news is that less an hour after it became available, the $1,000 matching grant was gone. The not quite so good news is that we are miles away from meeting today’s goal. Today’s total is just a few dollars short of $3,500. It’s mid-afternoon in the central time zone as I write these words. We have many hours left in the day, but time is running out to meet the personal goal I set for today. Can we raise $10,000 today?

You mountain-time folk are just returning from lunch. West Coast people are preparing the noontime repast. You all have plenty of time to pledge now and get us back on track to meeting our goal. Please donate now.

Let me share with you something that has been tickling my brain over the last couple weeks.

I was reviewing the line-up of stories we have run online over the last week or so. Look at these:

I can’t shake the feeling that the Catholic church is on the verge of something.

Let me give you a hint of a couple stories that are coming in the next few days:

Parishes are going on strike. We will have a story about this from Platteville, Wis., and another from Amras, Austria.

There is a darkness in this lineup of tales of people treating each other badly, but running through it all I see glimmers of hope. Like the people in Cleveland and Seattle, Platteville and Amras, Catholics everywhere are taking ownership of their church.

If you want learn about this, you will have to read it here. NCRonline.org has the full story.

But we will only have the means of getting these stories if you donate now.
