Changes announced for NCR leadership

Following its semi-annual board meeting April 27 in Kansas City, Mo., Tom Bertelsen, NCR Board of Directors Chair, announced that Caitlin Hendel, NCR's chief executive officer, publisher and president, has submitted her resignation to be effective June 30, 2018.

"I leave this organization with a great sense of accomplishment," Hendel said.

Bertelsen praised Hendel, saying she has served NCR with distinction and class. He said she particularly distinguished herself leading NCR during a difficult transition in which the company developed and implemented new software systems, embarked on a major fundraising campaign and launched a new membership program.

"On behalf of the full board, I offer Hendel our deep gratitude," Bertelsen said. He added that the NCR Board would immediately begin a search for a new chief executive officer.

In another development, the NCR directors elected James Purcell to serve as its new board chair beginning this November. Purcell, who joined the NCR board in 2015, served as Vice President for University Relations and then Special Assistant to the President at Santa Clara University from 1997 to 2016.

Prior to Santa Clara, Purcell served as the CEO of two large non-profit social service organizations: Hope Services and Catholic Charities of the Diocese of San Jose. Now retired from full-time employment, he has continued to provide consulting services to non-profits, Catholic parishes and the Diocese of San Jose over the past few years.
